![]() Yet it never reaches the heights Hogwarts Legacy reaches. Visiting this fantasy world, on paper, should have been like Alice in Wonderland: With some entertaining sorcery sprinkled on top of fast traversal and unique attack skills, it would have easily been a slam dunk to uncover the secrets of an unknown domain. So don't expect The Last of Us levels of writing here. And most importantly, the main character Frey is quite irritating with her Marvel-esque, unfunny quips. The story is basically this: A typical young adult from a metropolitan life gets teleported to an undiscovered and enchanted world, finds a powerful gauntlet with supernatural powers and becomes the centrepiece of a "save everyone" type of hero narrative, yet the game somehow manages to depict it in the most cliche and dull way possible. Unfortunately, despite looking somewhat promising at times, Forspoken turned out to be a massive stinker thanks to its boring action, lifeless world and terrible narrative direction. Given the reported hundreds of spells that players will switch between, that will be quite impressive if Forspoken’s developers manage to pull it off. Aramaki explained that was something Luminous really wanted to explore, with developers trying to give each spell a unique physical feel. Forspoken also takes advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback. For example, the controller’s light bar will change color based on which spell Frey is casting. The PS5 version utilizes several of the console’s exclusive features. While developers have high hopes for Forspoken as a new IP, Luminous is open about the game’s status as a performance showcase. Aramaki believes that what the studio’s doing with the engine, graphics and gameplay would not be possible on the older console. Luminous Productions is building the game to showcase everything the PlayStation 5 is capable of. “From the very early stages of game design, we always thought about doing something that could only be done on PS5,” Aramaki explained. ![]() The primary topic they discussed is why Forspoken is skipping the PS4 in favor of releasing as a PlayStation 5 and Windows PC exclusive.
